AC Milan recently claimed their 19th Serie A title, after a gap of 11 years. The Rossoneri have been able to rebuild their team to a great extent, and have a big achievement to show for it. And as is the case with modern football, the financial aspect of it has played a big impact.

To put things into perspective, here are the top five teams in Serie A with the highest net spend over the last five seasons.

Top 5 teams with the highest spend in the last 5 Serie A seasons

5. Inter Milan – €74 million

The now-former Serie A champions have one of the best net transfer records in the division. The sale of Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea certainly helped the books, and their smart recruitment policy has also helped them stay financially stable.

4. Roma – €98 million

Roma’s investment has seemingly paid off, with their Europa Conference League win. The capital club has won their first UEFA trophy under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, and could be set for a Champions League soon.

3. Napoli – €152 million

Napoli were title contenders this year, but missed out after inconsistent performances. A lack of high-profile sales from them has kept their net expenditure quite high in comparison to most other teams in the division.

2. Juventus – €321 million

Juventus are no longer the top club in Italy, having endured a trophyless season in 21/22. The signing of Dusan Vlahovic, Matthijs De Ligt and Cristiano Ronaldo has put them amongst the highest spenders. But, over the last five years, they have certainly had great success in domestic competitions.

1. AC Milan – €381 million

The Rossoneri have spent a considerable amount of money rebuilding their squad. And that achievement has paid off with their league title win. Losing several key players like Hakan Calhanoglu, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and now Franck Kessie for free has not helped their transfer record. But, they have been able to maintain a good squad nevertheless.
