Eintracht Frankfurt have won the 2022 Europa League by defeating Rangers 5-4 on penalties. Kevin Trapp emerged as the hero of the final for the Bundesliga side, denying Aaron Ramsey the decisive penalty in the shootout to win the competition for Frankfurt.

He made some very important saves throughout the game, and was rightfully named the man of the match in the process. The 31-year-old denied Ryan Kent in extra time, after he was six yards out from scoring. He blocked James Tavernier’s cross headed for the top corner with great positioning as well.

Tuta made a mistake leading to the first goal, which was converted by Joe Aribo. The Frankfurt defender slipped to allow Aribo in on goal and eventually, scoring the opener. But only 12 minutes later, Rafel Borre got on the end of a cross from Filip Kostic to level things up.

Neither side was able to find another goal, owing to heroics from Kevin Trapp and poor finishing on both ends. And eventually, the game was decided on penalties.

The last time Eintracht Frankfurt won a continental trophy was in 1980, and it took them 42 years to win another one. The German team has had a sensational run to the final, defeating Real Betis, Barcelona and West Ham United to make it to the final. And now, they have been able to make all those big games count with a season-defining win.

And now, they will be returning to the Champions League for the first time since 1960.
