Sony Xperia 1 IV launched with the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 SoC

Sony has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 IV. True to its name, the device is the fourth installment in the high-end Xperia 1 Series and features top-of-the-line specifications.

Sony has retained a simple yet powerful design philosophy, the Xperia 1 IV has a flat design on the rear and the front, and it has rounded corners. The device looks elegant while being unique at the same time.

Sony has partnered with ZEISS for the triple camera lens on the rear. On the front, the device has notch bezels along with a thick chin. Since it is a Sony device, the camera quality will be top-notch, and the company has provided a dedicated shutter button on the device.

The device features a 6.5″ 4K HDR OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz and an aspect ratio of 21:9. It offers a touch sampling rate of 240Hz and motion blur reduction by up to 240Hz. For protection, the display has a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. Sony has offered the best and brightest OLED panel on the Xperia 1 IV, it is 50% brighter than the previous generation displays.

Sony is one of the brands that has been moving towards sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint to zero. In order to achieve this, the brand has made the packaging of the Xperia 1 IV smaller by up to 50% and it contains 0 plastic content.

The device has been powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chip that has been paired with 12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB internal storage. The device has been powered by a large 5,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging support and wireless charging support as well.

For biometrics, Sony has integrated a fingerprint sensor, the device has an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, it runs on Android 12 OS, and has full stage stereo speakers.

Sony has prioritized the needs of content creators with this device, the smartphone comes with native live streaming support through “Videography Pro” mode and the device supports live streaming gameplay as well. For musicians, it offers Dolby Atmos sound tuning in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment and 360 Reality Audio feature as well.

In the optics department, the Xperia 1 IV has a triple camera setup with three 12MP sensors, the primary lens has a 1/1.17″ sensor that has been paired with a 16mm ultrawide angle lens, and an 85 to 125mm telephoto lens with 2.8x zoom. All these sensors arrive with OIS.

On the front Sony has provided a 12MP selfie shooter capable of supporting 4K HDR recordings. In terms of pricing, the Xperia 1 IV has been priced at $1,599 or 1,23,500 INR putting it in the ultra-premium category along with the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
