Villarreal 2-3 Liverpool (2-5 agg.): Brilliant Luis Diaz helps Reds qualify for UCL finals

Liverpool have made it into the finals of the 21/22 Champions League, winning the second leg of their semifinal 3-2 against Villarreal. In a game of two halves against the La Liga side, the visitors were able to score three goals in the second half to overturn the deficit and win 5-2 on aggregate.

Jurgen Klopp has now led the Merseyside club to three Champions League finals in the last five years. Moreover, their chances of winning the quadruple are becoming more realistic as they have an FA Cup final meeting with Chelsea alongside the Champions League final to play for.

Liverpool defeat Villarreal to progress to Champions League final

The Yellow Submarine had a great start to the return leg of the semi-final, scoring the first goal only three minutes into the game courtesy of Boulaye Dia. Francis Coquelin made things level on aggregate right before half time, rising past Andy Robertson to head past Alisson.

But, the introduction of Luis Diaz changed everything for the Premier League side. The former Porto man helped kick-start Liverpool’s rhythm and attacking intent, and soon enough, the goals started coming.

Fabinho, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane scored three goals within 15 minutes of the hour mark to complete the comeback and seal their spot in the finals of the competition.

But, Villarreal should be proud of their achievement this season, beating giants like Juventus and Bayern Munich to make it to the semi-finals and going out against one of the best sides in the world despite putting in a tough fight.
