The Pixel 6a is the most anticipated Pixel A series release to date. After years of Google’s outstanding software covering for its rather poor hardware, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro finally broke the norm. The Pixel 6a appears to be following the new look of the Pixel 6 models in the few leaks we’ve seen, and we can only hope that some of that carries over to the Pixel 6a features. The Pixel 6a will have to make some compromises to meet a budget pricing point, but given Google’s significant time and financial commitment to the Tensor processor, it’s difficult to picture it not being used again here.
The memory will include 12 solder spots on the PCB, all of which are compatible with Micron’s GDDR6X memory, according to the leaked PCB design. Single-sided and dual-capacity memory may be used on higher-end cards since it provides the best power/temperature balance and can hold up to 24 GB of data but at faster rates (Up To 24 Gbps).
In the mainstream sector, we’re likely to see 20 Gbps+ architectures in 8 GB and up to 16 GB flavours, which will assist cut power consumption because the memory’s power regulation will be reduced to three VRMs.

1. Hello 5G
According to Canada’s Radio Equipment list, three different FCC entries closely tied to the brand name “Pixel 6a” were discovered last week by MySmartPrice. According to the source, at least one model will support the n38 and n41 bands, while mmWave 5G will be held for a separate device.
All models are expected to support Sub6 5G networks, with C-band capability yet unknown but expected at this point. Given that those antennas are normally reserved for higher-end flagships with heftier price tags, it would be interesting for Google to produce an inexpensive smartphone with a mmWave connection.
2. Goodbye, headphone jack
Late this year, renowned leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer of OnLeaks (78.6 per cent accurate via AppleTrack) published comprehensive renders allegedly showing what to expect from a lower-end Pixel 6 variant. The elimination of a headphone port, a significant size reduction, and a screen-embedded fingerprint scanner were all key takeaways from the images.
This would be the first time Google has chosen to remove the headphone jack from a Pixel phone in the a-series. The Pixel 6a is expected to be much smaller than the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, with a display size of 6.2 inches, down from 6.4 inches on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.
3. Proficient performance
The Pixel 6a, like its flagship siblings, is supposed to use Google’s Tensor SoC, which is said to deliver a significant performance boost over the midrange Snapdragon CPUs seen in low-end Pixel phones.
Benchmarks for the Pixel 6a appeared on Geekbench in March, exposing 6 GB of RAM instead of the 8 GB featured in the premium Pixel 6 devices. The Pixel 6a outperformed the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro in benchmarks, implying that Google has tweaked its design since last autumn to improve performance.
4. Same old snapshots
While Pixel phones are known for their photography capabilities, the Pixel 6a is expected to fall short. The Pixel 6a is expected to include the same Sony cameras as previous Pixel models, according to rumours. Instead of upgrading the primary sensor to 50 MP like the Pixel 6, Google is said to be offering a three-camera array with a 12.2 MP primary sensor, a 12 MP ultra-wide, and an 8 MP hole-punch camera on the front.
The lack of a telephoto camera will surely result in grainy zoom images, but Google’s computational photography expertise will almost certainly make the Pixel 6a camera one of the best on the market among Android devices.
There have been no official announcements about the Pixel 6a’s release date, however, a tweet from leaker Max Jambor said it might be in May. The Pixel 6a was recently sighted going through the FCC on April 12, adding fuel to the fire for a May release.
The Pixel 6a must give the superb photo experience Google is known for, the same extended software support as the Pixel 6, solid performance (perhaps thanks to the Tensor processor), and a starting price of around $400 to remain a budget champ.
