Chelsea 2-0 Crystal Palace: Third straight FA Cup final for Blues as huge clash with Liverpool confirmed

Chelsea defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 in the semi-final of the FA Cup to set up another final against Liverpool. The two teams faced off for the Carabao Cup earlier this season, where Liverpool emerged victorious on penalties. And now, the two giants of English football will meet again in the finals of the FA Cup at Wembley Stadium.

The first half saw Chelsea have most of the passes and the ball. But, Crystal Palace had the better chances in the opening 45 minutes as they broke through the lines of defense several times. Despite their chances, the two teams headed back into the tunnel with the scoreline reading 0-0.

The second half saw Chelsea come out much more improved and faster in their passing. Former Crystal Palace loanee Ruben Loftus-Cheek opened the scoring for Chelsea with a strong volley from the edge of the penalty area.

He came on for Mateo Kovacic who went off injured in the first half, and answered Thomas Tuchel’s calls for better performances from him.

The pace picked up even further following the first goal, and Mason Mount grabbed the second to seal the spot in the finals for the Blues. Timo Werner was named the man of the match, having assisted Mount’s goal and put in yet another remarkable shift all around.

Crystal Palace had a couple of chances to score from corners. But, a lack of composure in front of goal prevented them from scoring even one in the game. Romelu Lukaku had a chance to make it 3 for the Blues, but his effort hit the post before Hakim Ziyech’s effort was blocked.

Chelsea eventually finished the game with a clean sheet, and now have the pressure of winning their first FA Cup after losing the last two finals in a row.
