Top 10 oldest Bundesliga goalscorers of all-time

The Bundesliga is one of the highest scoring leagues in all of Europe, despite having 34 games in comparison to the standard 38. In this article, we will be taking a look at the players that proved age to be just a number. Here are the top 10 oldest goalscorers in the Bundesliga. 

Top 10 oldest goalscorers in the Bundesliga 

10- Michael Tarnat (37 years, 11 months and 24 days) 

Tarnat scored all of 24 goals in his career, and the last of them came at the age of 37 for the left-back. His final goal came for Hannover 96 against Wolfsburg. 

9- Sigfried Held (38 years and 7 months) 


Held’s final goal was scored when he played for Bayer 05 Uerdingen in his final season. His goal came late in a losing effort against Vfb Stuttgart, with the scoreline reading 3-2. 

8- Lothar Matthäus (38 years, 7 months and 30 days) 

The German icon netted for the last time at the age of 38, winning against SC Freiburg by a 6-1 scoreline. He won the 1990 World Cup with Germany, and the subsequent Ballon d’Or. 

7- Richard Kreb (38 years, 8 months and 17 days) 

Kreb scored only two goals during his Bundesliga career, spending eleven seasons with Eintracht Frankfurt. The player scored in a 5-2 win against TSV 1860 Munich. 

6- Max Morlock (38 years, 11 months and 28 days)

The Bundesliga was established in Max Morlock’s final season as a professional. He scored against Hamburger SV and hung up his boots at the end of the campaign after 24 seasons with Nurmberg. 

5- Gunter Sebert (39 years and 1 day) 

Playing for SV Waldhof Mannheim, Sebert scored his final career goal against Bayer Leverkusen. He made a total of 128 appearances and scored 13 goals. 

4- Morten Olsen (39 years, 6 months and 18 days) 

Morten Olsen played for Koln in his final season, and scored against Bochum to win the game 3-1. The Dane made 80 appearances in the German league and scored 2 goals. 

3- Manfred Burgsmuller (39 years, 7 months and 14 days) 

The centre-forward scored within five minutes against Dusseldorf to give his side the lead in an eventual 2-2 draw. He helped Werder Bremen win the 1987/88 Bundesliga title with his contributions too. 

2- Mirko Votava (40 years, 3 months and 30 days) 

Votava was from the Czech Republic but ended up representing the German national team. He won the Euros with them in 1980, and scored his final goal against VfB Stuttgart. 

1- Claudio Pizarro (40 years, 7 months and 15 days) 

The former Bayern striker became the oldest player to score in the Bundesliga in 2018 after coming off the bench to score against RB Leipzig for Werder Bremen. He won 6 league titles and 1 Champions League with the Bavarians.
