We all know that the AirPods 3 offer a cosmetic upgrade over the AirPods 2, as well as other improvements such as battery life, but it appears that this was insufficient to drive demand. As a result, Apple is expected to reduce orders for its current-generation wireless earbuds by more than 30% and make some product decisions shortly.
Apple’s latest wireless earbuds, according to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, are part of the company’s ‘failed product segmentation plan,’ as demand for AirPods 3 is lower than for AirPods 2. Despite Apple’s official launch of the AirPods 3, the analyst may have meant that the AirPods 2 remained to be sold at a reduced price, making them a more realistic option for consumers. Finally, Apple’s decision to keep selling the AirPods 2 may have harmed demand for the AirPods 3.

To summarise, the AirPods 3 are now priced at $179, while the AirPods 2 are currently available at $129. There isn’t much of a difference between the two product generations other than a design modification and better battery life. Because the AirPods Pro is more expensive due to the improved audio quality, as well as Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode, it’s not unexpected that Kuo hasn’t said anything about Apple decreasing AirPods Pro orders.
As Apple prepares to release the AirPods Pro 2 in the second half of 2022, Kuo claims that the AirPods Pro 1 will be phased out to avoid making the same error as the AirPods 3. This could indicate that the original AirPods Pro iteration would be phased out of Apple’s online and physical stores shortly after the release of the AirPods Pro 2.
Customers may get resourceful and try to get the first-generation AirPods Pro from third-party stores if the AirPods Pro 2 lacks any notable features compared to its predecessor, which should be quite easy. We’ll have to wait and see what Apple decides on the AirPods Pro, but AirPods 3 orders are being drastically reduced.
