Biostar releases powerful Crypto-machine with Eight Radeon RX 6600 GPUs

Biostar has unveiled the iMiner 660MX8D2, a bitcoin miner with eight Radeon RX 6600 graphics cards. Biostar is quite active in the bitcoin mining scene, believe it or not. From mining-specific motherboards to whole plug-and-play mining equipment, the provider has it all. Biostar originally used Radeon RX 580 or RX 570 graphics cards from AMD’s Polaris platform. For the iMiner 660MX8D2, the manufacturer went with an RDNA 2 worker, namely the Radeon RX 6600M.

The iMiner 660MX8D2 is equipped with eight Radeon RX 6600M graphics cards, which are the mobile versions of the Radeon RX 6600. The Radeon RX 6600 and RX 6600M, on the other hand, use the same Navi 23 silicon with the same shader count, with the only difference being the clock speeds. As a result, Biostar most likely simply recycled the mobile dies for desktop graphics. It is, nevertheless, a frequent technique, as evidenced by Nvidia’s mobile GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card.

The graphics card features a single 8-pin PCIe power connector and three DisplayPort outputs as well as an HDMI port, none of which are required for mining. It’s a shame because these are legitimate gaming graphics cards that could have ended up in gamers’ hands.

The eight Radeon RX 6600M graphics cards are housed on Biostar’s TB360-BTC D+ motherboard, which uses the B360 chipset to accommodate outdated Intel processors from the 8th and 9th generations. Biostar equips the iMiner 660MX8D with a power-saving Celeron G4900 dual-core processor and a 120GB SSD for storage. Unfortunately, there is just one SO-DIMM memory slot for up to 16GB of DDR4-2666 memory. The significant part is that the motherboard has eight PCIe x16 expansion slots (seven PCIe 2.0 x16 at x1 and one PCIe 3.0 x16), which eliminates the need for riser cards. A 2000W 220V power supply is also included to power the eight RDNA 2 graphics cards.

The Biostar iMiner 660MX8D2 is marketed as a simple-to-use mining system that even beginners can use. It’s a plug-and-play item. The machine has a hash rate of 248 MH/s, which is around 7% faster than Biostar’s previous iMiner A588x8D2 miner, which had eight Radeon RX 580 GPUs. Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Monero, BTG, and Zcash, to mention a few, are all supported by the miner. The price of the iMiner 660MX8D2 was not disclosed by the manufacturer, so interested parties will have to contact Biostar for further information.
