The Premier League is one of the toughest leagues in the world, and it showcases some of the best players out there every week. In this article, we will be taking a look at five of the most versatile players in the English top flight.

Top 5 most versatile players in the Premier League

5. Cesar Azpilicueta – Chelsea

The Chelsea captain has featured in every position across the backline in his ten years at Stamford Bridge. Initially starting out as a left-back, Azpilicueta then moved to the right and can also play as a centre-back in a back three, given his outstanding ability with both feet.

4. Eric Dier – Tottenham Hotspur

The Englishman has transformed himself into one of the top centre-backs in the league after starting out as a defensive midfielder. With over 200 appearances for Spurs, he is one of their top players and puts in a consistent shift every match.

3. Bernardo Silva – Manchester City

Most distance midfielders have carried the ball in the Premier League this season (yards):

🥇 Declan Rice [10,179]
🥈 Bernardo Silva [8,565]
🥉 Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg [6,799]

The Portugal international was originally a winger but has been able to slot in central midfield under Pep Guardiola. He can now play anywhere across the midfield and the frontline and can operate just as effectively as a natural player in that position.

2. Joao Cancelo – Manchester City

When Cancelo first arrived in the Premier League, he was a right-back competing with Kyle Walker for game time. But now, he is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League, showing brilliant composure and passing ability with both feet.

1. James Milner – Liverpool

Apart from being a goalkeeper, there is almost no position that James Milner has not played in. The veteran is a midfielder by trade but has featured in defence and attack over the years. And it is a testament to his fitness that he is still able to keep himself available to play in various positions on the field.
