Christian Eriksen completes return to Denmark with a goal after 287 days

Christian Eriksen scored with his first touch, returning for Denmark in their international friendly against Denmark. The midfielder slotted the ball into the top corner seconds after coming off the bench, capping off a dream return to the national team.

287 days ago at the Euros, the player suffered a cardiac arrest on the field in Denmark’s first game against Finland. And after being fitted with a defibrillator, he has now returned in the best way possible.

Christian Eriksen achieves fairytale return to football with goal against Netherlands

“I was happy the ball came to me and of course, it was a lovely finish,” Christian Eriksen told Sky Sports. “To start the comeback in international football like this was the perfect way.

“I felt very welcome (by the Netherlands fans). I’ve been here before (for Ajax) for many years so of course, they know me, but it was a very heart-warming reception for sure.

“I’m looking forward to playing at the Qatar World Cup but there are a lot of games in between and I’m focused on them.”

The Brentford midfielder had to leave Inter Milan because he would not be allowed to legally compete in Italy. But he eventually returned to the Premier League, joining Thomas Frank’s side after his contract was terminated with Inter.

Despite Eriksen’s goal, the Oranje would go on to win the friendly 4-2, after Steven Bergwijn netted a brace. And now, Denmark turn their attention to their friendly against Serbia on Tuesday.
