Lionel Messi is willing to quit PSG and return to Barcelona for the lowest possible salary, as per reports

Lionel Messi is willing to quit PSG and spectacularly return to Barcelona. According to the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, the Argentine is unhappy in Paris, where he only moved last summer. It hasn’t been easy for him since then, since he has struggled to adjust to his new circumstances and has only impressed in bits and pieces.

Leaving PSG

In 18 games in Ligue 1, the 34-year-old has only scored twice, and he was booed by PSG supporters last weekend after their Champions League exit. With Kylian Mbappe close to agreeing to join Real Madrid and Angel Di Maria also said to be leaving, Messi may follow them out the Parc des Princes exit door.

Despite speculations that he’ll see out his deal until 2023, El Nacional now believes that the former Barcelona star is aiming to exercise an escape clause in his contract. To make his move to Camp Nou easier, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is willing to take a significant pay reduction and accept the lowest wage allowed by La Liga.

Messi’s return to Barcelona

Xavi and Dani Alves’ comments have added fuel to the rebuttal claims. Xavi, who has done an excellent job of resurrecting the Blaugrana since taking over from Ronald Koeman in November, has stated that the door is “always open” for him to return.

The Barcelona coach said: “Messi has earned the opportunity to have his doors open here while I am the coach, as well as if he wants to come every day to see the training or to talk to the coach. What he has given us is priceless, he is the best of the best. But today he has a contract with PSG, I think he signed for two years.”

After seeing him go through a difficult period recently, in which he has gone seven straight games in all competitions without scoring, Alves urged him to return, just as the Brazilian did in January.

In an interview, he told ESPN: “Messi is not enjoying himself. For me, he’s out of place. Right now, Leo is out of place there. Leo always said to me: ‘Where could I be happier than here? I’m proof of that. There’s nowhere better than here. For whatever reason, Leo isn’t here today but I hope he can come back.”
