India vs Sri Lanka 1st Test Day 1: The hosts reached 357/6 at the stumps

India’s first Test match against Sri Lanka was held in Mohali, Chandigarh where spectators were allowed since it was former skipper Virat Kohli’s 100th Test match. The match was dominated by Rishabh Pant and Hanuma Vihari, both of them crossed 50 runs individually.

Match Highlights

Rishabh Pant scored 96 runs, on the other hand, Hanuma Vihari scored a half-century for the team, playing against Sri Lanka in Mohali. India’s total run score on Day 1 was 357 for six wickets at stumps with Jadeja (45 not out) and Ashwin (10*) at the crease. Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal opened the innings with a 50 run partnership. Rohit Sharma scored 29 runs whereas Mayank got 33 runs for the team. Then, it was Virat Kohli’s turn to bat in his 100th Test. Kohli’s partnership with Vihari was solid but unfortunately, both of them got dismissed very quickly. India’s score at this point was 175 runs. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer helped India reach 199/4 by the tea time. They had a pretty good partnership but Shreyas got dismissed by Dhananjaya de Silva. Ravindra Jadeja paired up with Rishabh Pant and took India’s score past 250 runs.

Rishabh Pant was the star of the show in the final session since he scored 96 runs in just 97 balls.

Kohli’s landmark test match

It was Virat Kohli’s 100th Test match of his career. He scored 45 off 75 balls, he brought up 8000 Test runs for the team. Fans are eagerly waiting for his 71st Test century and it looks like they have to wait for a little longer. The last time he scored a Test century was at Eden Gardens in 2019 against Bangladesh.
