Barcelona are now confident about signing Cesar Azpilicueta in the summer. The Chelsea captain’s contract expires at the end of the season and he is yet to renew his contract with the Blues.

The Blaugrana are now confident about his arrival, since they have made a solid proposal for him to join. The offer made is for a two-year deal, until June 2024, which matches his demands. On the other hand, Chelsea are only willing to offer him a one-year contract with the option for another year.

Cesar Azpilicueta to decide between Barca and Chelsea

The Spaniard has been with the Blues for a decade, and is the first player in their history to win every single trophy available. He completed the set by winning the Club World Cup, after the Champions League trophy last summer.

And due to his consistent performances on the pitch, he has firmly established himself as a club icon. But with playing time growing shorter due to the rise of Reece James, a decision has to be made.

He could return to his home country of Spain and feature for one of the biggest clubs in the world, or spend another couple of years with the Blues before eventually hanging up his boots.

Ideally, Cesar Azpilicueta would want to play for Spain in the World Cup at the end of the year. But without consistent game time, selection in Luis Enrique’s squad will be difficult. With both teams interested in keeping the player, it is now up to the defender to decide the final chapter of his career.
