NorthEast United 1-1 SC East Bengal: 3 talking points from final draw for Highlanders

SC East Bengal and NorthEast United played out a 1-1 draw, with the latter playing out their final game of the season. Here are the three talking points from the game.

All said and done for NorthEast United

Khalid Jamil’s team have completed their 20 games of the season, and they are currently in second-last place in the table. SC East Bengal have one game in hand, and can only hope to finish last or second last. After making the last four in the previous season, the 21/22 season has not worked out in their favour at all. While this year has not played out in their favour, Jamil will be ambitious about their hopes of coming back stronger next year.

Perosevic and Sahanek on the scoresheet

Marco Sahanek earned the lead for NorthEast United in the additional minutes of the first half. However, his goal was cancelled out by a penalty converted by Antonio Perosevic of SC East Bengal. The Croatian has been the most fluid attacker for the Red and Gold club during his time on the pitch, and found his way onto the scoresheet to earn a draw.

Race to finish second last

SC East Bengal have one more game in hand before their disastrous second season in the ISL comes to a conclusion. The Red and Gold outfit has only managed to win one game during the course of the season.

They will be facing Bengaluru in their final game of the season, and a win would see them finish second last in the table on goal difference.
