Liverpool have won the 2022 Carabao Cup, defeating Chelsea 11-10 on penalties. The game extended to extra time after the two teams miraculously ended open play with the scoreline reading 0-0.

How did it end 0-0 in regulation time

Given the quality and the number of clear chances that were created during the game, it is unbelievable that it stayed 0-0 for as long as it did. Both teams came inches close to finding a breakthrough in regulation time, but were unable to do so.

Edouard Mendy and Caoimhin Kelleher both were incredible between the sticks. They denied the opposition time and time again, and offered up a Carabao Cup final for the ages by making some incredible saves. Both teams had goals ruled out for offside time and time again, which only added to the intensity of the clash.

All the drama between two top teams

Liverpool and Joel Matip was denied a goal from a free-kick situation because Virgil Van Dijk impeded play from an offside position. The referee consulted the pitch side monitor, and ended up ruling out the goal. The decision was controversial, to say the least, and ended up sending both the teams into extra time.

At the end of the first period of additional extra time, Kai Havertz and Trent Alexander-Arnold got involved in a heated exchange. Harvey Elliott then got involved in the issue, and it ended up drawing in the majority of their teammates to sort out the issue. In the end, it was a game for the history books in every way possible.

Kepa misses key penalty as Liverpool win 9th Cup title

The Spaniard was brought on to save penalties due to his positive record in shootouts. However, the man that was brought on to save the penalties ended up costing the game to the Blues. Liverpool ended up winning the game as it was a sudden death situation with the two goalkeepers set to take their shots.
