FIFA have stated that Russia will not be able to use their country’s name, national flag or anthem as part of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. They will be restricted to using the abbreviation ‘RFU’ (Football Union of Russia) if they are to compete in the qualifiers.

On the other hand, there is also a belief within the governing body that they could be banned from the 2022 Qatar World Cup. However, that has not been elaborated on as of yet. Russia will not be able to play ‘home’ matches in their country either, and neutral venues will be assigned with no spectators.

This will disappoint those calling for Russia to be excluded
BUT
FIFA will say this sounds like a final warning:

FIFA outline strict rules for Russia in the World Cup qualifiers

After the armed invasion of Ukraine, the governing body of world football has been urged to ban the country from participating. But as of right now, it sounds like a last warning as dialogue continues between them and the Russian FA, according to the statement released by them.

Although the invaders are using Belarus as a staging post for the invasion of North Ukraine, Belarus itself will not receive any punishment for their involvement.

Today’s FIFA decision is totally unacceptable. We are not interested in participating in this game of appearances. Our stance remains intact: Polish National Team will NOT PLAY with Russia, no matter what the name of the team is.

Despite the decision made by FIFA, Poland FA President Cezary Kulesza has announced that his country will not play their World Cup qualifier against Russia even if they compete under another name. They want FIFA to ban them from the World Cup later this year. Poland’s stance on the issue is shared by the other teams in the Path as well, such as Sweden and Czech Republic.
