Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 can now run Windows 11

Windows 11 is surprisingly adaptable, despite its strict requirements. It’s been seen running various devices, including the Google Pixel 6 and Microsoft’s Surface Duo. The operating system of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 has now been successfully booted by a Chinese developer (via ITHome).

An (almost) working Windows 11 desktop running on the Mi Pad 5, complete with the Start menu, leaked. Commonly used apps appear to be functioning OK due to a lack of drivers. As a result of this and several other factors, the team’s performance was subpar. The Mi Pad 5 scored 465 and 1,992 in Geekbench, respectively, significantly lower than the Snapdragon 860’s average scores of 756 and 2,712. The developer also conducted the Master Lu benchmark on the Mi Pad 5, but it’s difficult to say how much performance was lost due to the lack of baseline measurements.

The Renegade Project also provides a comprehensive tutorial on setting up Windows 11 on your smartphone. However, that way is only compatible with a few Qualcomm Snapdragon 845-powered devices, such as the OnePlus 6T. A matrix of supported devices and features can be found in the accompanying image. Please keep in mind that the matrix may be out of the current, so keep an eye on the project’s GitHub page for updates.
