OFFICIAL: Ligue 1 is not among the top 5 leagues in the world anymore as the Belgium league have taken its place

Although the Ligue 1 isn’t a very strong competition anymore, it is still one of the big leagues and has a rich history. And in this article, we take a look at the teams which have the most number of league titles in their history.

Clubs with most Ligue 1 titles in history

5. FC Nantes – 8 Titles

Nantes were formed in April 1943, and are among the most successful clubs in France. They have won eight league titles in their history and have won three Coupe de France iterations too. Their last league title came in 2000/01, and they haven’t won a major title since.

Monaco’s most recent title victory came in 2016/17, and they have won the title 8 times, the same as Nantes. They have won five Coupe de France trophies alongside the league title in their history.

3. Paris Saint-Germain – 9 Titles

Since their takeover, PSG have been the single most dominant force in Ligue 1. They have won the title 9 times, and if they are able to win it this season, they will be joining the team at the top of this list.

2 Olympique de Marseille – 9 Titles

Marseille were formed in 1899, and have a rich history behind them. They have won the league title nine times in total, with their most recent win coming in 2009/10.

1. AS Saint Etienne – 10 titles

While it might come as a surprise to people now, Saint Etienne are still the most successful club in Ligue 1. They have won the title ten times, but their last title win came in 1980-81.
