As the saying goes, age is just a number. And despite players often retiring in their mid-30s, some manage to deliver closer to their 40s as well. And in this article, we take a look at the top 5 oldest goalscorers in the Premier League.

5. Graham Alexander (38 years 6 months) 

Alexander only spent one season in the Premier League, and had a penalty conversion rate of over 90%. His last goal in the top flight came against Hull City, from the spot.

4. Stuart Pearce (38 years 7 months) 

The ‘psycho’ scored 99 goals in his career, and helped Manchester City earn promotion, while playing his best football at West Ham United. The left-back scored against Southampton in a 2-1 win for his final goal. 

3. Ryan Giggs (39 years 3 months) 

Giggs was present in Alex Ferguson’s last season in charge, which was also when Manchester United last won the Premier League. He has a record of scoring in every Premier League season from 1992-2013. His final goal came against Queens Park Rangers in the 80th minute. 

2. Dean Windass (39 years 7 months 21 days) 

Windass scored the final goal of his career in a 2-2 draw against Portsmouth, and helped Hull City earn promotion into the Premier League for the first time ever. 

1. Teddy Sheringham (40 years 8 months 24 days)

One of the most prolific strikers in the Premier League era, Sheringham is also the only player over 40 to have scored in the top flight. He scored his final goal in the league on Boxing Day 2006 against Portsmouth, playing for West Ham.
