Best Buy wants to earn some extra buck before it sells even a single Nvidia RTX GPU

Best Buy has been one of the more consistent sources to get a current-generation NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics card for MSRP. The American shop occasionally offers these greatest graphics cards for gaming available for purchase. In the past few months, the company has even conducted in-store events where everyone in line at a physical location may buy one card for the MSRP.

All of that is changing now, thanks to Best Buy’s Totaltech initiative. Best Buy made the whole GeForce RTX 30 series (including the flagship GeForce RTX 3090) available for purchase this afternoon, but only to those who paid an extra $199 for a Totaltech subscription. Free Geek Squad tech help, free 2-day shipping, 60-day returns, and 24 months of product protection are all included in the yearly membership price.

Another perk is “special Totaltech member prices,” which appears to be what happened with the latest GeForce RTX 30 price drop. @CameronRitz, who watches the in-stock status of various big-ticket commodities like GPUs and gaming consoles, was the first to notice Best Buy’s antics.

Best Buy opened the floodgates for the GeForce RTX 30 cards four hours ago, and they’re already all out of stock. Inventory generally vanishes quickly during these drops, but due to the additional Totaltech requirement, we expect it to remain a little longer today.

We understand why Best Buy uses customized programs like Totaltech to get as much money as possible from customers. After all, it’s a business, and Newegg’s Newegg Shuffle promotion also plays with players’ emotions. Totaltech, on the other hand, adds salt to the wounds for enthusiasts who have been put through the wringer for well over a year due to rising GPU pricing. And if Best Buy is confident enough to put GPUs behind its $200 Totaltech paywall, there’s no reason it won’t do the same with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in the future.
