For those who work with cryptocurrency, crypto fraud is unsurprising. The advancements in technology that support its growth also provide a doorway for fraudsters looking to exploit people. Because the perpetrator of this particular scam is a well-known YouTuber and gamer with a sizable fan base, people have been surprised.
Ice Poseidon, a popular gaming streamer on YouTube and Twitch, felt it was only just to take a few million dollars from his naive fans who blindly believed in his pump-and-dump plan. And, to add to the entire picture, Poseidon chose to spend the money on a brand new Tesla.
Kotaku broke the storey first. Ice Poseidon exploited his status and influence to persuade his followers to participate in a pump-and-dump operation. CxCoin is a cryptocurrency he invented specifically for this purpose.
What a commitment to the cause! To gain the trust of his followers and persuade them, the gamer, whose actual name is Paul Denino, followed the same line of reasoning used by the vast majority of its enthusiasts when confronted with perplexing questions: crypto is a long-term investment. Denino’s supporters appear to have gotten into his argument and invested in the pump-and-dump scam.
Denino was able to obtain a total of $500,000 as a result of the scam, of which he gave $200,000 to the developers who assisted him in the scheme and used the remaining funds to purchase a brand-new Tesla. The icing on the cake was the fact that the man didn’t forget to live broadcast the automobile being picked up.
