XMG 2022 Roadmap reveals the company’s offering of AMD Ryzen 6000H and Intel ARC GPU-powered notebooks

Pre-orders for the XMG NEO 15 and OASIS have begun, and XMG has released a product roadmap until 2022. XMG unveiled the NEO 15, one of the most powerful gaming laptops on the market, at CES 2022, causing a sensation thanks to its compatibility with the OASIS external laptop liquid cooling system.

The company is currently announcing additional details and product upgrades in conjunction with the launch of the pre-order period. XMG also provides a preview of the product roadmap for the first half of 2022, as gaming laptops with the current generation of CPUs and graphics cards will not be introduced all at once this year, but rather in stages.

When pre-orders begin, the XMG NEO 15 (E22) will be available with Intel’s new Core i7-12700H processor and three NVIDIA graphics options, each with a maximum TGP: the RTX 3080 Ti with 16 GB GDDR6 VRAM and up to 175 watts, the RTX 3070 Ti with up to 150 watts, and the RTX 3060, which operates at 140 watts instead of last year’s 130 To operate all GPUs at the highest TGP levels, Dynamic Boost 2.0 can be turned off in the XMG Control Center for all GPUs.

This places the 360.2 x 234.5 x 26.6-millimeter laptop, which weighs 2.2 kg and features a partly aluminum chassis, among the gaming segment’s performance leaders. Because of its powerful cooling system, the predecessor was noted for being able to provide stable, extreme performance over time. Further optimization is provided by liquid metal for CPU cooling and upgraded fans with 71 instead of 67 fins. With the optional external XMG OASIS laptop liquid cooling system, cooling performance can be improved even further while operating noise is reduced under stress.

A 240 Hz fast WQHD IPS panel with 95 percent sRGB color space coverage, two M.2 SSDs connected via PCIe 4.0, a 93 Wh battery, and a 280-watt power supply (with RTX 3060: 230 watt) underpin the XMG NEO 15’s high-end claim. XMG features a Full HD webcam instead of just an HD webcam, and larger speakers for a punchier sound than the prior model. The Microsoft Precision touchpad and the optomechanical keyboard with RGB per-key illumination are also carried over from the preceding NEO.

The NEO 15 has two graphics outputs: an HDMI port connected to the dGPU and a Thunderbolt 4 port with two integrated DisplayPort streams. It also has 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6, three USB A 3.2 ports, a full-size SD card reader, and separate audio connectors for headphones and a microphone. However, due to Intel’s design of the Alder Lake mobile platform, the latter is directly coupled to the GPU, making it incompatible with VR headsets.

The XMG OASIS drew a lot of interest at the start of the year as an optional external liquid cooling system for the XMG NEO 15. The AIO unit houses the radiator, fan, and reservoir in an external chassis that connects to the laptop by a quick-release connector and maybe simply connected and disconnected. XMG has made several enhancements since those early product trials.

For example, the updated reservoir now prevents air bubbles from entering the pump for quieter operation, the quick-release connection is tighter and fits more precisely, and the entire region around the laptop’s water connectors is more stable and well-sealed. The OASIS’ functionality has been upgraded with convenient OTA firmware upgrades, and the PCB inside the liquid cooler has been adjusted to reduce electromagnetic noise. In a news statement on its website, XMG summarised more upgrades. Cleaning utensils, a refill funnel, and drainage adapter, silicone dust protection caps for the XMG NEO 15’s USB-C and HDMI connections, and one liter of EK CryoFuel Clear cooling liquid are among the included supplies.

XMG has offered an outline of its product intentions for the first half of the year in yet another extensive news item. The 17.3-inch XMG NEO 17 is expected to be unveiled by the end of the second quarter at the earliest. In addition, like with the 2021 model generation, the business intends to sell NEO laptops with both the latest Intel and AMD CPUs. XMG anticipates a Ryzen 6000H-based generation by the end of the second quarter at the earliest, but the actual availability date will be determined by the availability of the new CPUs.

Unlike the XMG NEO, which is built for maximum mobile performance, the XMG PRO model series has been updated to give a more balanced concept. The laptops will have a completely redesigned chassis that is somewhat bulkier than its predecessor in exchange for increased performance. The most powerful model will include an RTX 3080 Ti with a TGP of 155 watts. The new PRO has a slightly more adaptable connection than the NEO, including a dedicated Mini DisplayPort directly connected to the dGPU. Despite the upgrade to the 12th generation Intel Core, XMG is preparing the PRO with DDR4 RAM due to an expected shortage of DDR5. The laptops should be available by the end of the first quarter.

Another highlight will be the follow-up to the long-running XMG FUSION 15 from 2019: the future XMG FUSION 16 will be even thinner and lighter and will include a 16:10 display, among other features.

XMG hopes to stick to the dualism of an Intel- and AMD-based model in the upper-performance mid-range, represented by the XMG CORE with RTX 3060, just as the NEO, although more specifics on this strategy are not expected until the second quarter. A new magnesium casing might potentially be added to the series to reduce weight.

The APEX model series will be updated with Ryzen 6000 CPUs by the end of the second quarter or the beginning of the third quarter at the earliest. The APEX will be the second laptop series to support the OASIS liquid cooling technology, following the NEO. Furthermore, an unnamed XMG FUSION with Intel’s specialized Arc graphics chip is casting its shadow.

The XMG NEO 15 (E22) comes standard with an Intel Core i7-12700H processor, a Ryzen 5 5600X desktop CPU, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card, 16 GB DDR5-4800 memory, a 500 GB Samsung 980 SSD, and a WQHD IPS display with 240 Hz. € 1.999 incl. 19% VAT is the starting price (in some countries different tax rates apply). A GeForce RTX 3070 Ti (€ 485) or RTX 3080 Ti (€ 1278) is an upgrade option. For € 199, you can get an external XMG OASIS laptop liquid cooling system. Pre-orders for both the NEO 15 and the OASIS are now open, with delivery due in mid-March.
