Resident Evil Village Surpass 5.7 Million In Sales becoming the Fastest-Selling Installment in the Franchise

Resident Evil Village has sold over 5.7 million copies, according to publisher Capcom. In its most recent earnings report for the third quarter of its current Fiscal Year, which ends on March 31, 2022, Capcom revealed the remarkable sales results for its latest Resident Evil title.

“Resident Evil Village topped 5.7 million units; won a total of 4 awards at Golden Joystick Awards 2021, including Ultimate Game of the Year”, the report reads.

Resident Evil Village was released worldwide in May of 2021 on PC and consoles, which means Capcom sold all of those copies in less than 9 months, making Village the fastest-selling Resident Evil game to date – a feat that Capcom announced back in May of last year when Village sold more than three million copies in its first four days.

For comparison, the game’s predecessor, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, sold 5.7 million copies in 1.5 years, while Resident Evil 6 sold roughly 5.2 million copies in its first year in 2012/2013. Total Resident Evil franchise sales have now topped 123 million globally, according to Capcom.

The PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S versions of Resident Evil Village are now available. In June of 2020, the game was formally announced at PlayStation’s Future of Gaming digital event. The village takes place a few years after Resident Evil 7 biohazard.

The first-person action in Resident Evil Village begins when players assume the role of a distraught and shattered Ethan as he seeks to uncover the mysterious new horrors that plague a once peaceful village. Throughout this terrifying journey, players will fight for every breath as they are hunted by vicious new enemies that have infested the snow-capped locale. Channeling the capabilities of next-generation consoles, the detailed realism and relentless feeling of fear will increase with each desperate battle for survival, while moments of calm will leave players wondering what new horrors await.
