On Tuesday, Badhaai Do, the upcoming film of Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar’s film trailer was released. The film Badhaai Do is being now advertised by the makers as a “spiritual successor to Badhaai Ho”. This new movie is going to revolve around the social subject same as the original movie-like. In Badhai Do we will get to see that the topic of homosexuality is put forward and has been presented in a very light-hearted approach. This new film Badhaai Do seems to be the half-baked cousin of Badhaai Ho.
Badhaai Do- Trailer
The trailer of the movie Badhaai Do stars Rajkummar Rao as Shardul Thakur who is portraying the role of a cop in the “Mahila police station” while Bhumi Pednekar is Suman, playing the role of a PT teacher, a woman who is surviving in the man’s world. The trailer is of 3 minutes, the trailer begins with the basic introduction of the lead characters, and then gradually it reveals that Shardul has been after Suman for almost four years to get married. The reason behind getting together is not only for their love but also to get their parents off their back. Meanwhile, it shows us that Suman is dating a girl, Shardul said that he is interested in men. In order to settle this conflict, they have made a plan to have a marriage of convenience and live like roomies while enjoying their freedom life. It’s an ‘atrangi wedding’ with a ‘satrangi setting’.
The lead characters played their role marvellously, it is not the first time that we are seeing both Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar playing the role of small towners. Although in this film the emotional quotient is seems to be missing from the actors, but they have tried hard to humour in this “comedy of errors” drama. There are a few fun moments but they never lead to any laughs. In this film it also hints of casr and sexism that has led to a yawn-inducing effect.

She has tweeted with the photo, “Arre yaar, ab toh ye secret kal out ho jayega ! Kyuki kal aa raha hai hamara trailer aur hum aa rahe hai theatres main. Hey bhagwan, I am very excited.”
In an earlier interview, Rajkummar Rao has described Badhaai Do as a reunion with friends. While speaking about his character, he has told to Mumbai Mirror, “I have played a cop before but never with this perspective. I look for layered characters and this one is a perfect match. My character is surrounded by strong women at home and at work and that adds immense depth to his personality. Harshavardhan and Bhumi are both dear friends and extremely talented artists. Junglee Pictures’ Bareilly Ki Barfi was a fabulous experience for me. So, Badhaai Do is a reunion in many ways.”
Bhumi Pednekar has further added, “Badhaai Ho is one of my favourite films in recent times, and it is really exciting to take this franchise forward. For me, the script is one of the best that I have ever come across, and I immediately wanted to do this film. My character again is strong, independent and author-backed, and it gives me a lot of scope to bring a very different and cool character to life. This time, too, the film will say something extremely relevant and relatable, but in a hilarious manner. I’m also excited to share screen space with Raj for the first time.”
The film Badhaai Do is going to release in theatres on 11th February 2022.
The film Badhaai Do is produced by Junglee Pictures and directed by Harshvardhan Kulkarni, who had earlier directed Gulshan Devaiah’s Hunterrr (2015). Its script has been penned by Suman Adhikary and Akshat Ghildial, who had co-written Badhaai Ho.
