Lamborghini to launch its last internal combustion model in 2022

According to IT House, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann (Stephan Winkelmann) claimed in an interview with “Automotive News Europe” on January 24 that this year will be the final time the company offers a model with solely an internal combustion engine.

In addition, Winkelmann stated that the company is off to a strong start in 2022. He was alluding to Lamborghini’s all-time sales record, which was set in 2021 with 8,405 units delivered. Urus SUV sales, which reached 5,021 vehicles globally, accounted for nearly 60% of this.

To prepare for the electrification of its lineup, the Italian company is expected to introduce four new models this year. Although the precise model has not been officially disclosed, it is expected that the Aventador’s replacement model will be one of them, as the Aventador Ultimate will be Lamborghini’s last pure V12 model.

Lamborghini has made a significant investment in the electrification of its vehicles. According to reports, the corporation has set aside 1.5 billion euros ($1.7 billion) for the shift to plug-in hybrids. The first Lamborghini plug-in hybrid vehicles will be available in 2023, and pure electric Lamborghinis will be available in 2025.

The future is undoubtedly electric for the Italian automaker, and it already has strong backing from the Volkswagen Group. Lamborghini’s electric car is still in the works, according to Winkelmann, and a four-door model “suited for everyday use” is also being considered.
