India vs South Africa 3rd ODI: SA won by 4 runs to complete 3-0 series whitewash

India had a disastrous loss in the 3 ODI series, even Deepak Chahar‘s 54 runs could not let India win against South Africa. SA defeated India by 4 runs in the third ODI in Cape Town. With this victory, the South African team settled the series at 3-0.

South Africa have defeated India in the series 3-0 by 4 runs at Newlands in Cape Town. South Africa had set a target of 288 runs to India where KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan had hit a few boundaries. Soon, Lungi Ngidi dismissed KL Rahul on 9 runs and the Proteas got the early breakthrough that they needed. Virat Kohli and Dhawan together then scored 96 runs before Andile Phelukwayo took Dhawan’s wicket on 61. Rishabh Pant got out on the first ball but Kohli continued and scored his 64th half-century. Maharaj dismissed Kohli on 65. Magala then dismissed Iyer on 26 and finally broke the partnership between Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav. Yadav didn’t stay for too long and returned to the pavilion on 39. Deepak Chahar scored 54 runs in 34 balls which went in vain as India lost the game by 4 runs.

In the first innings, India had got an early breakthrough as Deepak Chahar for Janneman Malan’s wicket on 1. Then Temba Bavum and de Kock strengthened the score by scoring more than 6 runs per over Bavuma got dismissed by KL Rahul. Aiden Markram had a partnership with de Kock and soon Chahar dismissed him on 15. After this, the grand partnership of de Kock and Rassie vd Dussen had a massive 144-run stand. Eventually, they returned back for 124 and 52 runs. Prasidh Krishna took 3 wickets while Chahar and Bumrah took 2 each to dismiss all the SA players for 287 runs in 49.5 overs.

Indian skipper KL Rahul is really disappointed with the Indian team’s performance. “Deepak Chahar gave us a real chance of winning the game. Quite an exciting game, just disappointed we ended up on the losing side. We gave ourselves a real chance, something we can learn from and get better. Quite obvious where we’ve gone wrong. No shying away from it,” said Rahul at the post-match presentation.”- He added
