The COVID-19 pandemic has delayed several tournaments as well as created resistance for IPL in the last 2 seasons. The IPL governing body is still finding the right place for hosting IPL 2022.

1. Covid related issue

The super hike in Covid cases due to the omicron variant in India has posed as a challenge for BCCI to move the league back to India. The unexpected rise has made the BCCI think about some other hosting destinations as well. Apart from India, the three other venues for hosting the IPL season 2022 are South Africa, Sri lanka and UAE.

2. Top overseas players are quitting

A lot of cricketers from England and Australia have backed out from the IPL 2022 Auction. Joe Root and Ben Stokes won’t be playing for the season. On the other hand, Pat Cummins and Mitchell are yet to make a decision to take part in IPL 2022.

“I didn’t give my name for auction, no, I think that there’s a lot that we need to do for this team, which deserves all of my energy. I really hope I get the opportunity to do it. I’ll keep sacrificing as much as I can because I care so much about Test cricket in our country and trying to get us to where we can,”– said the England captain after getting defeated by Australia in the Ashes Test

3. Fatigue for the players

A lot of players from IPL 2021 phase 2 have backed out because of their busy international fixtures and the strict bio-bubble to ensure safety and the smooth conduct of the league.

Indian players have generally have a packed schedule. They are playing cricket continuously after a short break after t20 World Cup. They played a home series against New Zealand and travelled to South Africa for Test and ODI series. In the next schedule, India will host West Indies and Sri Lanka for a full-fledged tour before IPL.

The busy schedule of the cricketers is definitely reducing their ability to perform to their full potential. Alongside, the bio-bubble takes a toll on the mental health of the cricketers. Ben Stokes had taken a break for 6 months due to his mental health issues.
