Wayne Rooney’s Derby County move off bottom spot in the Championship amidst Everton return rumours

Derby County manager Wayne Rooney might have the hardest job in all of England right now, if not Europe itself. And given the circumstances, the former Rams forward is doing a remarkable job with his team.

With their 2-0 win against Sheffield United in their most recent game, Derby County earned three vital points that moved them off of the bottom place. They now have 14 points from 26 games, and are 8 points away from safety, although having played two more games than the rest of the bottom three.

Wayne Rooney continues to impress in first managerial job

To put things into perspective, Derby County have had a 21-point deduction handed to them this season due to administration. They have also been hit with a transfer embargo, and have had to release key players to help the club sustain itself.

But, Wayne Rooney’s team has managed to earn four wins out of their five games, and have only drawn with Reading to stay unbeaten.

The former Everton player is now being linked with his old club, to potentially return as a manager. The Toffees sacked Rafa Benitez a few days ago, and are looking for a replacement, with the Derby County manager one of the favourites to land the job.

Rooney’s decision is not known as of yet, but it is surely a lucrative offer from his former club. And given the circumstances right now, the Rams might be headed down to League One if Rooney leaves since they do not have the stability to change managers in the middle of the season.
