With an all-time peak of 73,529 players so far, God of War on PC has surpassed Horizon Zero Dawn to become Sony’s biggest launch on the platform. God of War achieved that amount on January 15 – one day after the once-PlayStation exclusive landed on PC, according to SteamDB, a website that records Steam’s data.

Furthermore, for the week ending January 16, God of War was the best-selling game, beating out Monster Hunter Rise, Ready or Not, Elden Ring (pre-order), and others. Horizon Zero Dawn achieved the highest all-time peak for a Sony first-party game, with 56,557 players, before God of War’s launch on PC. Days Gone, Sony’s second first-party PC game, reached 27,450 players.

Sony’s commitment to bringing some of its greatest exclusives on PC appears to be paying off, with God of War director Cory Barlog revealing that PlayStation’s studios were instrumental in persuading Sony that doing so was a “very smart idea.”

Barlog and Santa Monica Studio head UX designer Mila Pavlin also discussed how bringing God of War to PC allowed them to not just make use of and experiment with the extra capability of the PC, but also to make it more accessible to all types of gamers.

“This PC port offers some nice boosts over the PS4 Pro release, it scales well, and although impactful on hardware, it does give you the choice of increasing resolution, quality, frame rates, and even aspect ratio over what PlayStation consoles offer,” we said in our God of War PC vs. PS5 Performance Review.
