AFC Champions League 2022 groups announced: Mumbai City FC & Gokulam Kerala drawn

The draws for the 2022 AFC Champions League are out, and defending ISL Champions Mumbai City FC have been drawn in Group B.

They are joined by AL Jazira of UAE, Al Shabab of Saudi Arabia and Air Force Club of Iraq. The fixture dates and the venue for Mumbai City’s AFC Champions League group stage games will be announced in due course.

I-League winners Gokulam Kerala have been drawn in Group D of the competition. They have been drawn alongside Bangladeshi champions Bashundhara Kings, and Maldives’ Club Maziya. The group will be completed with a playoff winner joining them.

Indian teams set for AFC Champions League

The AFC Champions League draw was held at Kuala Lumpur, and the tournament will be played in April, at a centralised venue. The groups will be played out in a double round-robin format.

Mumbai City FC are making their debut in the competition after winning the ISL for the first time last year. They are only the second ISL team to qualify for the competition after FC Goa earned a spot in the competition last year.

The Gaurs finished with three draws and three defeats in their attempt, and Mumbai City have a chance to be the first ISL team to win a game in the competition.

Mumbai City FC have not been in the best form over the last few weeks, and have been displaced from their spot at the top of the table. As a result, they will have to return to their top level if they want to be successful in the continental Cup.
