Anthony Martial’s situation at Manchester United is now starting to get complicated. The player had asked to leave in the January transfer window, but has not had any concrete offers come his way yet.

United were held to a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa last night, and Martial was excluded from the squad. Ralf Rangnick and the player both offered contrasting statements about the matter, which has led to tensions rising between the two parties.

Anthony Martial’s Manchester United future complicated further

“He didn’t want to be in the squad,” Rangnick told reporters after the match.

“He would have been in the squad normally, but he didn’t want to. That’s the reason he was not travelling with us yesterday.”

“I will never refuse to play a match for Man United,” Anthony Martial wrote on Instagram. “I’ve been here for 7 years and I never disrespected and will never disrespect the club and the fans.”

This season, Anthony Martial has only made ten appearances across all competitions, and has been far from the starting line-up under the German. The last time he was seen on the pitch was in a two minute cameo for the Red Devils in their 3-2 win against Arsenal on December 2.

Manchester United are prepared to let the Frenchman leave on loan, but the interested club would have to pay his wages alongside a loan fee. They have until the end of the month to let him go, or he will be staying at the club until the end of the season.
