Top 5 football clubs with the most Copa del Rey title wins in history

The Copa del Rey is one of the oldest competitions in the world, having been contested since 1903. It is Spain’s domestic cup competition and has given fans very special moments over the years. In this article, we take a look at the teams that have won the competition the most number of times:

Top 5 clubs with the most Copa del Rey wins

5. Valencia – 8 times

Our list starts with Valencia, who won the competition for the last time in 2018/19 under then-manager Marcelino. By upsetting Barcelona in the finals, they denied the Blaugrana a fifth Copa title in a row.

4. Atletico Madrid – 10 times

The reigning La Liga champions have lifted the Cup ten times over the years. But, it has been almost a decade since they last achieved the feat. Atletico Madrid lifted the Copa del Rey in 2012/13, and have since been unable to get the prize.

3. Real Madrid – 19 times

Real Madrid are the most successful team in Spain and Europe, having won the La Liga title 34 times and the Champions League a record 13 times. But, they haven’t had the most luck in Copa del Rey. The last time they won the competition was in 2013/14, also under Carlo Ancelotti.

2. Athletic Club – 24 times

In the previous century, Athletic Bilbao were a domestic force, especially in the 40s. They have more Copa del Rey wins than Real Madrid, and that alone deserves a lot of credit. But, they have yet to add to their tally since winning the domestic double in 83/84.

1. Barcelona – 31 times

Barcelona are the defending Copa del Rey winners, having won it last year under Ronald Koeman. They are the only club to have lifted the title on more than 30 occasions, and rank atop the list as a result.
