The long-awaited African Cup of Nations is now here. 24 teams will be competing for the title, with one left standing at the end of the tournament as the clear winner. In this article, we take a look at the three favourites to win the 2022 Cup of Nations.

African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2022 predictions

Algeria

You can never count the defending champions out, and Algeria have all the credentials needed to successfully defend their crown. Riyad Mahrez, Ismael Bennacer and Said Benrahma are all bigshots for Algeria, and will be expected to play a big part in helping their country carry out a successful campaign.

Egypt

Egypt has won AFCON seven times over the years, which is more than any other country in the continent. The last time they won the trophy was in 2010. Mohamed Salah, their star player, has been in sensational form with Liverpool this season. And his fellow countrymen will be hoping he can bring his form to the national team as well.

The Liverpool winger has the class, the ability and the form to go ahead and win the tournament single-handedly if it comes to it.

Senegal

Led by captain Sadio Mane, Senegal lead the list of favourites to win the AFCON. Watford’s Ismaila Sarr has also made the line-up, alongside the defensive duo of Napoli’s Kaildou Koulibaly and Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy.

They made it to the finals of the competition last time, only to lose to Algeria, and will be extra motivated to win the competition this time around.
