ISL 21/22: 3 talking points as SC East Bengal hold Mumbai City FC to a 0-0 draw

SC East Bengal and Mumbai City FC played out a 0-0 draw to share a point in the ISL. Here are the three key talking points from the game.

Clean sheets at last

The last time SC East Bengal kept a clean sheet was on matchday four, when they drew 0-0 against Chennaiyin FC. They have not won a single game so far, and have not been able to be on the winning side of a clean sheet as a result.

Mumbai City FC, similarly, have had to wait four games to stop conceding goals. They haven’t had the best defensive performances lately, but did well to concede none against the Red and Gold club.

SC East Bengal resurgence continues

Since the dismissal of Jose Manuel Diaz, SC  East Bengal have looked like a different team. They continued their resurgence under caretaker manager Renedy Singh, and earned a well-deserved point against the reigning champions.

While Mumbai City FC dominated possession, they were unable to beat the resolute East Bengal defense, and were left frustrated.

Two points dropped for Mumbai City FC

Mumbai City FC are in the race to defend their title, while SC East Bengal are still looking for their first win. The Islanders were the clear favourites heading into the game, but could not take all three points against their opponents.

While it was a hard-earned point for East Bengal, Mumbai City FC will consider it two points dropped in the title race, especially after Hyderabad FC went up to the top for the first time ever. Their lead is under serious threat now that the Nizams, and ATK Mohun Bagan have an extra game to play.
