Manchester United announce Richard Arnold as their new CEO

Manchester United have announced their replacement for Ed Woodward, with the chief executive set to leave on February 1st. Richard Arnold, the group director, has been promoted to the post of CEO, and will assume the role once Woodward departs.

The club had announced the departure of their chairman following the European Super League announcement in April 2021. And now, a change is set to take place in the management under the Glazers.

Richard Arnold to become the new Manchester United CEO

Joel Glazer, executive co-chairman, said: “I would like to thank Ed for his tireless work on behalf of Manchester United during his nine years as executive vice-chairman and 16 years with the club.

“We are now looking forward to Richard and his leadership team opening a new phase in the club’s evolution, with ambitious plans for investment in Old Trafford, the strengthening of our engagement with fans, and continued drive towards our most important objective — winning on the pitch.”

Here is what Arnold had to say about his appointment:

“I am honoured to have the chance to serve this great club and its fans,” he said. “I am determined to return that honour in any way I can.”

Ed Woodward has been criticised throughout his nine years at Old Trafford, but his ability to keep sponsorships rolling in has kept him at the post. Now, Richard Arnold is set to take over a club that hasn’t won a trophy since 2017, and hasn’t won the Premier League in almost a decade.

Hopefully, the new CEO will be able to give the fans some encouragement with a better direction for the team and the back end along with it.
