Sony announce Bravia XR A95K – The world’s first QD-OLED TV for consumers

Sony has announced the release of the world’s first QD-OLED TV later this year. Their current OLED platforms use panels provided by LG that are modified with Sony’s own processing.

The new Bravia XR A95K TV will include a QD-OLED (quantum dot organic light emitting diode). The panel will be manufactured by Samsung Display, and will be available in 55 and 65 inches. Both of them will provide 4K resolutions for consumers.

The main difference between QD-OLED and OLED

The key difference between the two kinds of panels is in the way the image is produced. QD-OLED eliminates the need for a colour filter by using blue light through quantum dots to create images. The efficiency of the light energy is much more in this case, and the new models should offer brightness gains as well.

Sony’s QD-OLED for 2022

The relationship between Sony and Lg is continuing, with the former still using the A90K and A80K from LG Display. The competition between the two kinds of OLED screens will be interesting to see since this is the first time that both of them are on the market.

The A95K will have two positions, the front and the back, and can be modified depending on your requirements. It is also expected to have four HDMI outputs, with two supporting HDMI 2.1. All the new models will support 4K gaming at 120Hz, auto HDR tone mapping and low latency mode when connected to a PS5.

The new model will be available for shipping starting from spring 2022.
