Qualcomm is collaborating with Microsoft on-chip development for the next-gen AR glasses

This year we all going to get some fantastic chips as Qualcomm and Microsoft have set to collaborate to develop the latest, customized Snapdragon augmented reality chip that boosts future AR glasses within the ecosystems of Microsoft. This latest partnership was declared at Qualcomm’s CES 2022 keynote.

The Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon say, ” We are announcing that we are developing a custom augmented reality Snapdragon chip for next-generation, power-efficient, very lightweight AR glasses for the Microsoft ecosystem,” he also added, ” And we are integrating into that chip platform software from both companies: the Microsoft Mesh platform, and the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon Spaces XR development platform. Snapdragon Spaces will be fully integrated into Microsoft Mesh, and this platform will be available for next-generation lightweight glasses.”

If you look closely these partnerships are not quite surprising as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 850 chip already charges Microsoft’s HoloLens 2 headset from 2019.

Now Qualcomm just gear up the focus and also the development of more specifically AR and VR focused chips in this year, containing the Snapdragon XR2 that boosts the Oculus Quest 2. Microsoft a Qualcomm also have worked jointly on the bespoke chips in the past just like the Surface Pro X’s customized SQ1 and SQ2 processors.
