Apple’s 2022 iMac Pro launch will mark the company’s complete transition to custom SoC

The Mac Pro and iMac Pro are the only items that haven’t yet made the switch to Apple’s proprietary CPUs, and according to the latest information, their successors will arrive later this year. In other words, we could see Apple move to its proprietary silicon in a few months, potentially abandoning Intel as a customer.

If you thought the M1 Pro and M1 Max were impressive, Apple appears to have saved the best for last. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, both the Mac Pro and the iMac Pro will symbolize Apple’s commitment to utilizing the company’s CPUs exclusively in its products. According to Gurman, Apple might complete the shift from Intel chips as early as June 2022, which is usually when WWDC kicks out.

The Mac Pro could also be Apple’s most powerful machine to use an M-series SoC, though we don’t know what it’ll be called just yet. Thankfully, Gurman has already claimed that the future Mac Pro will not have a huge chassis like the current-generation model, which houses an Intel Xeon CPU, and that this will be due to Apple Silicon’s efficiency.

It will supposedly be half the size of the present model, while a different rumor claims that the new Mac Pro would feature a 32-core processor, but there’s more. According to a source close to Apple, the company is working on a 64-core processor. The iMac Pro, on the other hand, is said to have a 27-inch display, a boxy form similar to the M1 iMac, and many USB-C connections.

It could also be the first iMac to include a mini-LED panel with ProMotion support, implying that the ‘All in One solution will include multiple upgrades. As previously stated, both of these machines are expected to be released later this year, and we will have all of the details for you, so stay tuned.
