Max Verstappen picked up an impressive win in the 2022 US Grand Prix as Red Bull won the Constructors’ Championship. This was the first time that the team won the trophy since 2013, capping off a remarkable season in 2022.

With the first-placed finish in the Circuit of the Americas, Verstappen matched Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel’s record for most wins in a single season with 13.

Red Bull founder Dietrich Matescjhitz passed away at the age of 78 only a day before the race, which made it all the more emotional for the team.

“It’s been a tough weekend for us and that’s why we really wanted to do well today,” Verstappen said. “It was all looking great up until that pitstop and then we had to work for it a little bit harder than we would have liked.

“But luckily everything worked out, we got back into the lead with a few laps ago. This is, I think, a typical race Dietrich would have loved to seen.”

A delay in the pits cost Verstappen the lead in the middle of the race. But with six laps to go, he surpassed Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton to take the lead and win the 2022 US Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso suffered an engine penalty, having been sent flying after an accident with Lance Stroll. Sebastian Vettel was named the driver of the day after fighting his way to 8th place following a slow pit stop.
