IPL 2022: Top 5 major changes in next season that will make the league more exhilarating for fans

IPL 2022 will be featuring 10 teams, 8 existing teams and 2 new teams. The Indian T20 league will get transformed forever. Fans will be beholding their favourite cricketers in different outfits while the broadcasters may also change hands after IPL 2022.

10 teams competing against each other

In IPL 2022, 10 teams will be competing against each other. CVC Capital has won the bidding for the Ahmedabad franchise while RPSG Group had a bid for Rs 7090 crore amount to get the Lucknow Franchise. The two teams will be joining the clan of existing 8 teams IPL 2022 Mumbai Indians (MI), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Bangalore (RCB).

KL Rahul will be the captain of the Lucknow franchise whereas Shreyas Iyer and David Warner can be leading the Ahmedabad franchise.

New format of the IPL

BCCI confirmed in one interview “The new franchises will participate in IPL from 2022 season onwards subject to the bidders completing the post-bid formalities as specified in the ITT document. The IPL 2022 season will comprise ten teams and will have 74 matches, wherein each team will play 7 home and 7 away matches,”

  • The teams will be divided into two groups ( 5 in each)
  • A team plays four other teams in the group twice, four teams in the other group once and one team from the other team twice (8+4+2= 14 League Matches)
  • A draw will be deciding the matches for the two teams.
  • The playoffs will be having a conventional format.
  • Top two teams from groups play in Qualifier 1.
  • Second ranked teams will be in Eliminator
  • The loser of the Qualifier 1 facing the losing team of Eliminator in Qualifier 2.

Is it the last Mega Auction?

Franchises are in the belief that through mega auction, they lose their players and a team which took them years to build.

Venue

The rising cases of the Covid-19 omicron variant will be deciding the venue of the next edition. BCCI held the first half of IPL 2021 in India but the next half took place in UAE after the Covid-19 outbreak in India. The teammates are in the bio-bubble.

Media Rights tender

The IPL Media Rights tender for 2023-2027 will be released after the appointment of the two new teams.
