Sniper Elite 5 was revealed to be launched in 2022 this time taking the fight to France

Developer Rebellion has announced that Sniper Elite 5 will be released in 2022. It’s been a long time since the last major entry in the series, Sniper Elite 4, was released, which was back in 2017.

Despite its age, Rebellion released current-gen upgrades for Sniper Elite 4 alongside Crystal Dynamics’ action-adventure game Shadow of the Tomb Raider earlier this year. This new update for the 2017 title demonstrated that Rebellion is still committed to the franchise, as evidenced by the announcement of the new game.

Apart from the improvements, Rebellion also worked on Zombie Army 4: Dead War, the latest episode in its Sniper Elite offshoot, which was released early last year. The game takes place after the events of 2015’s Zombie Army Trilogy and incorporates several of Sniper Elite’s and the prior Zombie Army games’ fundamental elements. Zombie Army 4 received current-gen updates for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, just as Sniper Elite 4.

Sniper Elite 5 will be released sometime in 2022 for Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Epic, Steam, and the Windows Store, according to a press release from Rebellion. Sniper Elite 5 will send protagonist Karl Fairburne to France in 1944 on a mission to stop Operation Kraken, a secret project that threatens to destroy the Allies before D-Day even takes place. According to Rebellion, the game will include “largest and most immersive” maps in the franchise’s history, as well as real-world locations from 1944 France.

Players will have various infiltration and extraction points in Sniper Elite 5, as well as a new navigation system, to provide them more options for not only approaching and killing their targets but also leaving the area undetected. New weapon and ammo customization, an upgraded kill-cam, expanded co-op gameplay features, an invasion-style drop-in PVP option, and more are among the game’s major additions.

It’s encouraging to see Rebellion, the developer of the Sniper Elite series, continue to push the boundaries with its third-person shooter franchise. With such a large gap between Sniper Elite 4 and its sequel, fans of the franchise can expect a similar gap in quality between the two games.

With a still-unknown release date, interested parties can either wait for more information or play Sniper Elite VR, which was released earlier this year and was hailed as the most immersive Sniper Elite experience yet.
