It’s official that Virat Kohli has been replaced by Rohit Sharma. He must be feeling betrayed because of being removed as the skipper of ODI when he gave up only T20I captaincy and IPL captaincy. As per reposts, BCCI has removed Virat Kohli as the ODI skipper since they didn’t desire to stretch it. the entire white-ball captaincy has been handed over to Rohit Sharma from South Africa tour onwards.

BCCI in his official statement stated “The All-India Senior Selection Committee also decided to name Mr Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI & T20I teams going forward,”

Virat Kohli stepped down as the T20I captain but he wanted to lead the team in ODIs till the 2023 World Cup which will be hosted in India. Ib a lengthy selection meeting, Kohli was forced to step down as an ODI captain.

Virat Kohli’s records as an ODI captain

Total Matches: 95
Won: 65
Lost: 27
Winning percentage:  70.43
Runs scored: 5,449
Average: 72.65

Virat Kohli stepped down as the T20I captain and BCCI captain and selectors were against the idea of having two skippers in white-ball captain.

BCCI didn’t want to take away Kohli’s ODI captaincy and wanted to give him 2022 as India would be playing fewer ODIs, they decided against it. With the ODI World Cup in 2023, selectors wanted to have continuity in white-ball cricket.

The idea of having two different captains would not go well with the team players as they had to report to two different captains to ODI and T20.

As per reports, a BCCI official told “Virat has led the team successfully in ODIs but having two captains in limited-overs cricket can create unnecessary complications as the set of players will be same,”

Virat Kohli earlier said that he won’t be taking the pressure of captaincy in ODI anymore, but after BCCI selected Rohit Sharma over Virat Kohli, he must be regretting that.
