Luka Modric could return to the Premier League if Real Madrid don’t renew contract

Luka Modric will go down as one of Real Madrid’s best midfielders in the 21st century, if not the standout performer. Real Madrid only offers one year of contract to their players who are over 30+ years of age, as was the case with Sergio Ramos.

The Croatian midfielder is a regular part of Carlo Ancelotti’s team every single week, and is expected to be a part of the team next year as well. Real Madrid want to extend his deal until 2023, but negotiations about a move are yet to begin.

Modric’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he is yet to agree to a new deal with the board. With six months remaining on his contract in January, he will be able to talk to foreign clubs about a free transfer in the summer. That is, of course, if he wants to leave Real Madrid.

Manchester City is one of the clubs that could recruit the Ballon d’Or winner if he chooses to leave the Santiago Bernabeu. Luka Modric captains the Croatian national team and wants to lead them at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, and a spell at the Etihad could guarantee his selection in the squad.

After returning to the Premier League and spending a few years with the Sky Blues, he could also enjoy a spell in the MLS due to New York City FC being part of the City group as well, a career trajectory similar to that of Frank Lampard.

But, the catch to all of this is his contract situation. And Real Madrid are quite optimistic about a renewal.
