Most disappointing 2021 summer signings XI so far

A number of signings were made this summer to revamp squads and add depth and quality to teams. While all signings are made with positive intent, not all of them work out.

Although we are only a third of the way into the new season, there are a number of players that have been disappointing at their new club. Of course, there is plenty of time to improve since they have more than 20 games left this season.

And in this article, we will look at the lineup of the most disappointing summer signings of 2021 so far.

GK: Paulo Gazzaniga (Fulham)

Previously of Tottenham, Gazzaniga has found it difficult to adjust to the Championship with Fulham. He has been benched for six straight games and has been replaced by Marek Rodak.

RB: Denzel Dumfries (Inter Milan)

The Dutch defender was very impressive for the national team at the 2020 Euros. But, he has failed to replicate the same form at Inter and effectively replace Achraf Hakimi. Inter Milan are already considering the competition for the player to help him improve.

CB: Eric Garcia (Barcelona)

Garcia returned to Barcelona this summer as a free agent, ending his contract with Manchester City. However, his second spell at Camp Nou has not turned out quite according to plan.

CB: Sergio Ramos (Paris Saint-Germain)

The former Real Madrid captain made the move to Paris Saint-Germain after he failed to renew his contract with Los Blancos. The Spaniard has been injured since arriving at his new club and is yet to make his debut. However, he is now in training and is expected to play his first game soon.

LB: Danny Rose (Watford)

The former England international has not kept a single clean sheet this season. He has been very poor on the pitch, conceded a penalty and has been dribbled past twice. Despite being signed on a free transfer, Rose has become a concern for the team.

CM: Marcel Sabitzer (Bayern Munich)

The former Leipzig captain followed Julian Nagelsmann and Dayot Upamecano to Bayern Munich. However, he has not managed to break into the lineup ahead of Thomas Muller, Joshua Kimmich or Leon Goretzka. He also hasn’t had a single goal contribution to his name yet.

CM: Saul Niguez (Chelsea)

Saul’s Chelsea debut was short-lived, with the Spaniard struggling to adapt to the pace of the Premier League. He has since been given chances in other competitions and is slowly improving, but has not managed to live up to the expectations that the club had for the former Atletico Madrid man.

RM: Francisco Trincao (Wolves)

The Portuguese winger has not managed to contribute to a single goal in eight league games yet. He played 40 times for Barcelona last year and has not been able to replicate the same form in England.

LM: Jadon Sancho (Manchester United)

The former Borussia Dortmund man made his long-awaited return to Manchester this summer. But, he has only started three league games and is yet to provide a goal contribution for the team. Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford are seemingly in front of the player in the pecking order.

ST: Luuk De Jong (Barcelona)

Luuk De Jong was seemingly an impulse signing by Barcelona after the late departure of Antoine Griezmann. The Dutchman has been poor in all his outings, and Barcelona is looking to move him on immediately.

ST: Andre Silva (RB Leipzig)

Silva joined Leipzig after scoring 28 goals in 32 league games for Frankfurt last season. But, after netting only three times so far this season, the fans have been left disappointed with his initial impact on the team.
