Eddie Howe appointed head coach by Newcastle United

Eddie Howe has been officially announced as the replacement for Steve Bruce at St James’s Park. The former Bournemouth manager has signed a three-year contract until 2024. The backroom staff issues have all been sorted out, which were previously hindering the deal.

“This is a wonderful opportunity, but there is also a lot of work ahead of us,” Howe told Newcastle’s website

“I am eager to get onto the training ground to start working with the players,” he added.

“I would like to thank the club’s owners for this opportunity and thank the club’s supporters for the incredible welcome they have already given me. I am very excited to begin our journey together.”

After the Saudi Arabia takeover of Newcastle United and the removal of Mike Ashley as owner, Steve Bruce left the club by mutual consent. He oversaw the 3-2 defeat against Tottenham in his final game with the Toons, which was also his 1000th managerial game.

Howe has a big job on his hands, since he is the manager of the most expensive club in the world right now. The Magpies are currently ninth in the table, with 5 points from 11 games. They have not won a single game so far this season. Under the new manager, they will be hoping to taste victory for the first time this campaign.

And in the short term, they will also be looking to avoid the drop to the Championship with several signings expected to be made in January.
