Lenovo Tab P11 Pro review: A great secondary device with an OLED display

OLED displays are getting more mainstream than ever before, now from laptops to big TVs, from smartphones to tablets everywhere it’s an OLED. Obviously, they have become cheaper than before, and it’s not that their quality is cheap; here, we got the Lenovo Tab P11 Pro – Lenovo’s best offering for review.

Well, a lot of reviews have already been done on this tablet, so, to make it more worthwhile, short & concise, here I will discuss more why you should consider this and who should consider it. Also, we will discuss whether you should buy this over an iPad or how Android is limiting this nice tiny piece of technology.

Initial Impressions

Right off the bat, when you just open it and take it in your hands, you will note how premium-looking it is, almost as premium as an iPad Air with an aluminium unibody construction. The 87% screen-to-body ratio gives more screen on a lightweight device which is both easy to carry and has good performance.

The sides of the tablet are very sleek, and the sleek bezels of the display give a more worthwhile/modern feel which you miss on the normal iPad but see on the iPad Air. It is an Android tablet but runs on older Android 10, and just recently got the Android 11 update, and the OS almost give that stock experience.

The newer 16:10 aspect ratio, which Lenovo is implementing on almost all of its devices, including laptops, is welcome because still, I complain about the older 4:3 aspect ratio on my iPad. The quality of the OLED panel is excellent, goes very bright with a rich contrast ratio, meaning deeper blacks and colours look excellent on this tablet.

However, the only place where I found the Lenovo Tab P11 Pro behind Apple is the processor, as it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G. It is by no means bad; it is just average, good for basic work, gaming and stuff, nothing extra special. It is worth noting that iPads charge you a lot because you get 128GB storage, which can be expanded.

Also, this Lenovo Tab P11 Pro is equipped with Wi-Fi+LTE, making it an ideal solution if you are going outdoors and on iPads; you have to spend a lot of money to get that feature. It doesn’t support 5G; if that’s your priority, you can go for Samsung ones; however, you won’t face any issue if you mostly use it with Wi-Fi like me.

Now, here are the key points for which you should spend your money on this tablet:

Premium Design & Build

Well, if you are someone who wants to flaunt your tablet in front of others, then the Lenovo Tab P11 Pro is one of the best for the price. The aluminium unibody design looks as well as feels great on the hands and sports a unique dual-tone finish to complement a clean, contemporary profile.

With four-sided, 6.9mm narrow bezels on its display, this ultra-slim device tapers to just 5.8mm at its thinnest edge, so carrying it anywhere won’t be much difficult. Also, it comes with an optional Keyboard folio which is a better option frankly if you are serious about using it as a secondary device.

Also, if you want, you can get the entire tablet + Keyboard folio + Lenovo Precision Pen for ₹49,990 if you want to. The display is really good, and so artists can use a precision pen to make drawings, edit photos and much more.

Excellent Display

For the past couple of weeks, I have been testing a lot of OLED laptops, so this Lenovo Tab P11 Pro seems more of a habit to me as almost all smartphones these days bear an OLED panel. So, you can easily judge the quality of an OLED display, the contrast ratio, brightness and other little nitpicking easily.

To be very frank, this tablet’s primary USP has to be its display; yes, the 11.5 inch OLED display here with 2560*1600 resolution looks phenomenal for daily usage and media consumption. I enjoyed playing movies; thanks to Dolby Vision and TÜV Rheinland eye comfort certification, you can continuously watch anything without any issues.

The richer black levels and the 500 nits of peak brightness make this tablet stand out from the competition in the same price bracket. I will prefer OLED over any display, and I bet you would too if you look at it.

Also, if you are a mediaholic, you will love this tablet as it’s Netflix HD certified and supports high-quality FHD streaming with Dolby Vision for supported apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+Hotstar and others. Not only that, you can even stream YouTube videos at 4K, and it would look fantastic on this display; overall, kudos to Lenovo for giving an A grade OLED panel on this tablet.

Decent Performance

I won’t say the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G octa-core processor is bad here; however, a Snapdragon 8-series chipset would do a better job for professionals. So, if you want to do video editing for a little heavy task you cannot do on this tablet, you are better with the iPad.

However, if you are like me, mostly using Android apps to write articles or just researching stuff, you can easily connect a keyboard and mouse; your secondary device is here. Make video calls via the dual front camera; thanks to the 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage, you can install more apps than ever.

Camera & Audio

Lenovo was kind enough to provide with 13+5 MP dual rear camera along with an 8+8 MP front camera; this really helps to take wide-angle shots; however, it’s not the best of quality. Overall, for taking basic photos when you are outdoor and do not have a camera, it’s fine, and the dual front camera helps during video calls or capturing groupfies; also it supports face unlock.

Now, coming to audio, this is another big USP of this tablet. It is in fact, the best speaker I’ve ever heard on a tablet. Lenovo did boast of quad JBL speakers tuned by Dolby Atmos, two on each side, and I would say the claim to deliver the best sound experience is indeed true.

I really enjoyed watching movies on this tablet; I preferred using it over my 4K monitor just because of its brilliant display and best-in-class sound. The Lenovo Tab P11 Pro is the best tablet for media consumption, and the rich bass on this device lets you enjoy movies like if you are in a theatre.

The speakers are so loud but have been toned really well, helping to give the best experience even if you are listening to casual music. I enjoyed my Spotify sessions of the P11 Pro, wherein I could easily hear songs even if the tab was playing in some other room.

Clean Android Experience

Android devices these days are flooded with bloatware and unnecessary apps, which really slows down the experience. However, Lenovo has used a clean stock Android experience to make things simpler for you and also make the tablet run faster; the P11 Pro runs smoothly for basic everyday work.

There are almost no unnecessary apps pre-installed, and the Android 11 update has recently arrived as well, so, on the software, you are quite sorted. Also, when you turn your mouse or keyboard on, there’s a desktop mode that eases your work.

The new Android 11 brings a dedicated pane for Entertainment space which shows you various recommendations from Google TV, Hotstar, Netflix, Prime video and others in the Watch section. Whereas in the Games section, you get a variety of game suggestions as well as instant games to play, while in Read section you can browse various books, ebooks and other stuff.

Good Battery Life

Lenovo has packed a huge 8600 mAh battery into the tablet and it promises up to 15 hours video playback time, indeed the battery life of the Lenovo Tab P11 Pro is excellent. You can comfortably get a day’s battery life with a single full charge and for watching movies, listening to music, or doing casual work.

Verdict

If you are someone who is desperate to get a tablet as a secondary working device, the Lenovo Tab P11 Pro gets the job done with its decent SoC, clean Android and good battery life. Obviously, its display and speakers are its USP, making it the best out there for media consumption anyway and if you have the budget to spend then you should go for this tablet.

On top of that, iPads are great for those who need extra bit of horsepower, however, if you ask me, if I would spend Rs.10k more on this over the basic iPad, then I would personally. It’s not comparable to the iPad Air in terms of specs but things like expandable storage, OLED display, LTE support are missing on the iPad.

So, this is a good tradeoff for the Rs.42k price and if you can get extra bank discounts, exchange or other offers, getting this one makes more sens. However, the biggest factors to prefer the Lenovo Tab P11 Pro over other will be cause of its premium design, excellent display, mind-blowing speakers and good battery life.
