Lucas Hernandez to serve a six-month prison sentence

Bayern Munich and France defender Lucas Hernandez could be facing six months of prison time for breaking a restraining order. The player was charged in February 2017 when he and his girlfriend ended up at the hospital following an altercation. Since then, a mutual restraining order had been filed and Hernandez was arrested for domestic violence. Despite that, neither party pressed charges.

Only months later, the two broke the restraining order and went on a holiday together. Their return to Spain was after they got married. Upon their return to Madrid at the time, Hernandez was detained. His girlfriend was not arrested since she had not been officially served by the court.

Hernandez was sentenced to six months in prison in December 2019, and since this isn’t his first offence, he was unable to commute the sentence. The player is expected to appear in court on October 19 and will have 10 days to voluntarily turn himself into prison.

Despite that Hernandez intends to appeal the sentence when he is presented in court.

Bayern Munich paid €80 million for the player in the summer of 2019, months before he was sentenced to prison time for breaking the official restraining order.

The player most recently featured for France in their UEFA Nations League campaign and lifted the trophy alongside his brother, and AC Milan left-back, Theo Hernandez.
