A recent video update on the YouTube Valve account posted the latest process of Steam Deck teardown. The video mainly focuses on the analog stick and SSD replacement and the manufacturer has promised that at some point replacement parts will become available so a video like this will become handly should anyone need to replace those components.
In the video, however, Valve has made one thing clear and SSD replacement is not recommended. The drive which was used in the video for replacement was carefully chosen for the console and was tested thoroughly in terms of power consumption and electromagnetic interference.
People who have pre-ordered the steam deck will now start receiving them from December. New orders however will not be fulfilled till the second quarter of 2022 at least, that’s assuming no component shortages.
Valve’s steam deck is equipped with AMD Van Gogh APU based on Zen2 and RDNA2 microarchitecture and comes with 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options. This storage can further be expanded through the MicroSD slot, which is a recommended way according to the video. The device is supported by 16GB of LPDDR5 memory and sports a 7-inch 1280×800 display, and a 40 Whr battery.
