Real Madrid star Benzema becomes the first UEFA Champions League player to score in 17 consecutive seasons

Karim Benzema, a former Olympique Lyonnaise football club of France player, was in action for Real Madrid in their second game of the UEFA Champions League Group D against FC Sheriff at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night.

Benzema struggled to establish himself in his first season at Real Madrid, but he gradually rose to prominence and won numerous championships, ranking as the club’s sixth all-time greatest goal scorer and all-time top assist provider.

Following his fantastic performance for the club in their previous game, where he was able to shine, the Frenchman was kept in his team’s starting XI. He was fantastic for Los Blancos, scoring a goal in a three-goal thriller at home, but his efforts were not enough to save his club from a 2-1 setback. The visitors seized the lead in the 25th minute when Djasur Yakhshibaev scored a one-nil goal, which was the only goal that separated the two teams at halftime.

The speed of the game picked up in the second half, with the hosts levelling the game via penalties in the 65th minute, with Karim Benzema putting the ball away from the spot to make it 1-1.

After some impressive performances, the hosts fell after conceding another goal in the 90th minute, this time to Sebastien Thill, who made it two goals to one. After repeated attempts by both sides to add to the night’s tally, both sides were unsuccessful, and the game concluded two goals to one at full time.

With his goal of the night, Karim Benzema becomes the first player in Champions League history to score in 17 consecutive seasons, the most by any player in the competition’s history. In the process, he surpassed Raul Gonzalez to become the fourth-highest goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League’s history.

With the unfortunate result of the night, Real Madrid will be aiming to get back on track in their next match to keep their title hopes alive.
